ACCESS THE WIND INDUSTRY

It's your dream to work in the renewable energy industry?
But you worry about the cost of retraining and where to find reliable information? We don't blame you!

In 2010 we set up the Altitec Academy because those questions worried us too. We wanted to boost the skills of our own blade technician teams and help more people into a well-paid career in wind energy.

Altitec teams currently work full time in UK, Ireland, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Mexico. And as demand for skilled rotor blade technicians increases, so the industry has developed a recognised standard for technician training and skills.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THE COURSE?

The two week GWO Blade Repair training at the Altitec Acadey will equip you with the skills to get started in the industry. Taught by supervisors and engineers each with more than 10 years experience in the industry, the course provides a foundation of skills essential for delivering high-quality repair work in a safe environment.

Course instruction will cover:
  • Trailing edge repairs up to 1.5m
  • Leading edge repairs up to 1.5m
  • Laminate repairs down to core material
  • Core material replacement up to 200cm²
  • Surface repair to paint and gelcoat

TOPICS INCLUDE

Composites and blade construction

Health and safety

Materials, tools and equipment

GWO Blade Repair Training from Altitec Academy also includes ActSafe Ascender end-user training, covering safe work practices for battery and petrol-powered ascender systems, and demonstrating the latest rope access methods for wind turbine inspection.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE

You will be able to work safely with composite materials while conducting inspection and basic blade repair procedures. You will be ale to support an overall improvement of the safety for personnel working on composite repair work and blade inspection in the wind industry.

DEVELOPING SKILLS

The GWO blade repair training course is an entry level course. Delegates are not expected to perform repairs in major structural elements of blades like spars, spar caps and carbon fibre.

After successful completion of the course, Altitec offers Onsite Training for graduates holding relevant professional certificates that meet specific site and project requirements. Graduates are welcome to apply for this on course completion.
